European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) Stands with AFP Following Bureau Strike in Gaza
The European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) unequivocally condemns the recent attack that has caused significant damage to the bureau of Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Gaza City on November 2nd. The Board of EANA, supports AFP Chairman and CEO, Fabrice Fries, also President of EANA, in his denouncement of this egregious act.
“It is a matter of great concern when massmedia infrastructure is targeted like this, more so when the location of the bureau had been well known, having been clearly communicated previously. Fortunately, due to proactive measures taken by AFP, all staff members who were usually based at the Gaza City AFP bureau were unharmed as they had been already evacuated”, said the Secretary General of EANA, Alexandru Giboi.
This difficult situation underlines the importance of protecting journalists who provide an invaluable service in delivering news to the global community. EANA urges all parties to respect journalists and to ensure their safety. We stand in solidarity with AFP and all media facing similar threats and continue to advocate for the promotion of a safe climate in which trustworthy journalism can develop.
